Terminology used in System + Documentation

A

API (Application Programming Interface) 

We run C7 on an API, which is a set of specifications, such as Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request messages, along with a definition of the structure of response messages, usually in an Extensible Markup Language (XML) or JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format. Applications in the Apps & Extensions section of the admin panel are accessible due to our platform being API based. 

Application

Both Commerce7 & third parties develop these tools (applications) to offer additional value added for your winery, found in the Apps & Extension section of the admin panel. 

 

B

Batch

Used by C7 to describe processing a set of actions at once. Ie email campaigns, credit card etc.

Backend 

The admin panel, POS and Reservations systems are all part of the back end solution. These systems are built to communicate with the front end on how to present information to your customers on the website, payment terminal, etc which are the front end solution. 

Black-Out

Used to describe dates you wish to exclude from reservation bookings. 

Bounced

Not delivered, or turned back. Used on C7 to describe emails that are not delivered. 

Bulk Actions 

These actions exist to export data you may find useful within your operations, or function as an action you wish to apply to a large set of orders (Ie. Pickup to Ship, print receipts, packing slips etc). 

 

C

Cart 

The status of an order before it is purchased. A cart exists for each customer that starts to select products on your website (or within the admin panel) but does not complete the order. For every order placed, there is a cart record that precedes it.

Cart Carrot 

Messaging you can add to a customer's cart on the website to entice additional sales for free shipping, extra bottles, new merch etc. 

CRM

You will find CRM in the admin panel, a database for your customer information and any notes/tasks in relation to customers.

Client

The wineries/businesses using the Commerce7 platform to maximize DTC sales. Our valued clients. 

Customer 

The people purchasing from the wineries/businesses using the Commerce7’s platform. When we refer to customer centric commerce in our mission, this is the group we are referring to. 

Club 

A periodic shipment of wines/product to a group of specified customers, club members. 

Club Package 

This term refers to one instance of wines sent out for that particular club shipment. 

Club Member

Used to describe a customer who chooses to receive periodic shipments/pick up a select group of products of their preference. 

Club Shipment 

A shipped order in relation to a Club Package/Subscription. 

Commerce7

Our mission at Commerce7 is to enable businesses around the world, regardless of size, to succeed by empowering them with the digital tools needed to create customer-centric shopping experiences.

Campaign

Used to describe a batch of emails sent to your customers. 

Collection

A grouping of products primarily used to display products on your website, POS,  or to create promotions or discounts. Ie. White Wine Collection, Rose Collection etc.

Compliance

Conforming to a rule, such as a specification, policy, standard or law. Regulatory compliance describes the goal that organizations aspire to achieve in their efforts to ensure that they are aware of and take steps to comply with relevant laws, policies, and regulations. When using Ship Compliant's Paid service, you will be able to verify the status of your order compliance, and retry compliance once any issues have been resolved.

Coupon

A discount offered in the form of a code (ex. 25%OFF), applied at checkout. This discount is not automatically applied (unless it is applied to a traditional club package). The customer will need to apply the coupon code at checkout to receive the benefits of the discount. 


 

D

Dashboard

This term refers to the “home” page within the admin panel of Commerce7. Here you will find helpful blog posts, recommendations, recent orders, and system updates.

Developer

An individual that builds and creates software and applications. They write, debug and execute the source code of a software application. A developer is also known as a software developer, computer programmer, programmer, software coder or software engineer.

Designer

At Commerce7, this term refers to an individual who customizes and develops a website to present information from Commerce7's backend in a way that aligns with your brand.

Documentation

Our articles, videos, and written descriptions on how to best use Commerce7. If you have any ideas for documentation- please let us know at support@commerce7.com.

Data 

Information stored relating to customers, orders, inventory, sales, etc. A broad term for information stored as a record. 

Data Partner

A third-party resource for migrating information + data from your previous system to Commerce7. 

Department

A method to segment products for primarily internal accounting use. 

Duplicate 

A second copy of a record.

Declined 

Payment was not successfully processed. This could be due to the card holder/provider or the system itself. Declined payment status will be associated with an error code that will indicate what went wrong.

 

E

Export 

Moving data from inside Commerce7 to outside Commerce7. Commonly used for printing receipts, order export, packing slips. 

Edit

To make changes to an original record. 

Email Template

A guide/outline for how you can design + customize an email campaign. 

Extension 

Additional features you can add on to Commerce7 to improve your functionality. 

Event Ticket

Commerce7 application that is best used for 1 off, unique events. If you have weekly scheduled events such as tours or tastings, you'll be better off using our reservation management system to facilitate those.

 

F

Fulfill

An order status, when an order is fulfilled the order has been completed or is being delivered. 

Form

The Commerce7 form builder allows you to create and include forms on your front end website which can be completed by site visitors.

Finance Reports

Reports generated for simple, easy transactional data related to financial reporting. 


 

G

Gift Card 

A virtual or physical gift. A cash like purchase that can be used at your winery.

Google Pay

A secure and quick method of payment processed through a verified google account. 

 

H

Hold

A status for subscription wine club memberships to offer the customer more control. A pause to ordering new wines and receiving available discounts. (Can only be placed on hold if there are no active packages built.)


 

I

Inventory

A complete list of products or items related to stock levels. 

Integration 

3rd party apps or processes that compliment Commerce7's functionality and experience. 

Inbound 

An order placed through the Admin panel. An order channel alternative to web, POS.

Integration Partner

3rd party partners Commerce7 trusts to assist our clients with providing robust & variable solutions. Our integration partners can help with website design, data migration, integrations, and custom solutions. 


 

L

Limit

An upper maximum or a lower minimum within the system. Related to Clubs, enabling promotions, guest counts for reservations etc.  

Locations

Physical addresses where your business operates. Set up in the admin panel. 


 

 

M

My Profile 

Your user information as an associate/partner/admin. 

Meta Data

Custom fields easily incorporated within Commerce7 to provide insights on customers, clubs, orders, etc. 

Marketing

Features located in the admin panel, where you will find helpful tools to reach your target market. These tools are queries, email campaigns, personalization's, form, and cart carrots.

Membership

Term used to describe those who participate in a wine club, or subscription based, exclusive ecommerce experience. 


 

N

Notices

Banner messages that can be displayed across the Admin Panel, POS or Reservations Dashboard. Helpful for notifying employees of an event, or important pickup ect. 

Notifications 

Emails providing useful information regarding recent changes on the platform. Can be customized within settings in the admin panel. 

Notes

These are internal facing fields that allow you to track details about a customer, club member and/or to communicate action items and assign them to other users/employees.

 

O

Orders 

An individual record of items purchased, payment method used, time stamp, channel detail ect. 

Order Chanel

How the order is placed through Commerce7. Web, Club, Inbound, POS. 

Override

To dominate an original request to obtain a different result. Manually override inventory, compliance ect. 

 

P

Promotion

An automatic discount applied based on set criteria within the admin panel. 

Partner

A member of the Commerce7 network who has the ability to customize solutions for our clients. 

Pick Up 

An order placed with the intention to pick up the products from your business location (tasting room, warehouse etc)

POS

Point - of - Sale 

POS Profile

POS profiles allow you to segment & track data by location. 

POS Basic (Account Role)

This role can only access the POS. Within the POS, they can do everything EXCEPT view reports, and create price overrides (they can still discount orders through coupons). 

POS Standard (Account Role)

This role can only access the POS. Within the POS, they can do everything and have no account restrictions.

Property Map

A map of your property to aid in visualizing where your customers are located. 

Product

An item listed for sale within your website, club, admin panel or POS. 

Packing Slip

A document used to display order information as well as shipping details. 

Personalization's

A specific method to market to your customers based on their own unique preferences and customer journey. 

Promotions

A promotion is a discount that can be applied to a product, collection, or store. You can give all customers access to a promotion, or limit access to specific customer tags, or club levels.

When a promotion is applied, all customers who are eligible to receive the promotion, will automatically receive it. They do not have to apply it on their own.

Process Date

In traditional clubs, these clubs auto-process on the date specified in the system. 

 

R

Refund 

A repayment of a sum of money related to an order. Can be a percentage of the total, or a total refund. 

Requested Ship Date 

A date selected by the customer to determine when the order will be sent out. An alternative to the fastest possible shipment. 

Reports

A quick snapshot of information + data available within the system. 

Reservations

A module within Commerce7 used for booking in-person visits to your business location. Entirely customizable. 

 

S

Security 

Measures taken to protect account information, payment information, and other sensitive customer/business data. 

Scheduled Task

A set time for a system, person or business to complete an objective. Ie. Commerce7’s scheduled task to check Ship Compliant every 4 hours for new tracking information.

Shipment

The process of an order traveling from your business location to the customer. 


 

T

Tag 

Used to segment data within Commerce7. These can be used for orders, customers, clubs and a variety of other criteria.  Tags can be manually added to these data types, or can be dynamically applied based on a certain set of conditions. You can also tag query results using C7’s marketing tool.  

Tasting

A sample of wine, not a full glass but recorded within Commerce7 for CRM benefits, Club Member Benefits, Inventory purposes etc.. 

Taxes 

A compulsory contribution to state revenue, levied by the government on workers' income and business profits, or added to the cost of some goods, services, and transactions. Set appropriate tax types at the product level, and manage further tax details within settings. 

Terminal

A device which interfaces with payment cards to make electronic funds transfers. Connected to Commerce7 Payments or Card Connect to facilitate payments within C7 from the tasting room or POS. 

Test 

A sample workflow to ensure accurate results. Ie. testing a discount before emailing it in a promo to all of your customers. 

Tickets 

A confirmation of registration for an event, uniquely indicating who owns the registration. Also used to describe the process of contacting our support team. Each email sent to support@commerce7.com creates a support ticket

Tip

AKA “Gratuity”, a sum of money customarily given by a customer to certain service sector workers for the service they have performed, in addition to the basic price of the service.


 

U

Unsubscribed 

A preferential status for customer email marketing campaigns. If a customer unsubscribes, they do not wish to receive marketing emails in the future. 

URL

AKA “uniform resource locator” or "Link". Colloquially termed a web address, a resource that specifies its location on a computer network and a mechanism for retrieving it. 

Update 

An improved change to the system itself. We keep a list of system updates in the dashboard, as well as within our documentation. 


V

Version

When updates are made to software, this term is used to describe the chronological representation of the software in that moment in time. Ie Our Systems Frontend Version 1 and 2.

V1 

The first version of our frontend, a dynamic option for customer centric commerce, but definitely worth upgrading to V2 if you still use this frontend. 

V2

Our second and streamlined version of the V1 frontend. Our V2 frontend is even more customer centric, beautifully designed, and encourages more sales through the ease of checking out. 



W

Web Order

An order placed through your website online. 

Wishes

Within the allocations section in the admin panel, the customer could choose to “wish” for an additional bottle or bottles of wine that are difficult to come by. As the winery, you have the option to grant those wishes, or ignore them if you wish.
