Migrating Data into Commerce7

Coming from another system? Here's how your data can be migrated into Commerce7

If you are new to Commerce7 and have Customer and Order History that needs to be transferred from your legacy system, here are the steps.

In this article:

How Data is Migrated

Commerce7 does not have built-in import tools. Instead, you will need the assistance of a developer to migrate your data via APIs.

You are welcome to input the data manually, but if you have are large amount (say, several years of Order history), then you will likely want to engage with a developer instead.

The Migration Process

After signing up with Commerce7, it is important to begin the data import process promptly. This will help prevent any delays in your launch.

The items you import may vary depending on your specific needs, but typically, the following data is commonly brought into Commerce7 in this order:

  1. Products - Prior to importing, it is advisable to create your Product Departments and Product Collections in Commerce7. (Learn about those here). By setting them up in advance, this will enable automatic application to your Products during the import process. (Note that you can add them later one by one if you'd prefer).
  2. Customers - Next, it's time to bring in your Customers along with their personal details like shipping addresses. It's a good idea to set up Customer Tags or Customer Meta Data in advance. These are customizable fields that can store additional information about your customers. Once set up in Commerce7, they can be included in your import process seamlessly.
  3. Order History - Import previous Orders into Commerce7 to maintain a record of your Customer's purchase history. This is crucial for developing effective marketing strategies and gauging the long-term value of your Customers.. We recommend migrating the last 1-3 years of purchase history, but this time period will depend on your specific business needs.
  4. Credit cards - This step calls for additional coordination. You will need to schedule a specific date to extract credit card information from your current system, tokenize it, and then transfer it to Commerce7.
  5. Club Memberships - If you will be importing Club Membership affiliation, you will first need to Create the Clubs in Commerce7. Learn how to do that here.
