For clients using our free tax solution, there are some upcoming changes that you should be aware of.
What's Happening
Our current free tax calculations offered in partnership with ShipCompliant have been discontinued. While taxes are still be calculated on your orders, rates no longer received updated after Jan 31, 2024. As many of you use this service, we wanted to continue to provide it free of charge. Starting May 8, 2024, we will be rolling out a new solution through ShipCompliant that will replace the current one. This will happen over the course of a week and no action is required for the implementation of these changes.
If you are currently using a paid tax account with ShipCompliant or Avalara, these changes will not affect you.
What to Expect
- Shipping orders will calculate address level rates, instead of zip code level
- For pickup and carryout orders, to accommodate varying state and local tax collections, rates will be set on your Inventory Locations and can be customizable.
- We will be deferring to ShipCompliant's default rates for each state. You can expect to see changes to the rates currently being charged compared to the new rates.
- For clients using Manual rates, you now also have the ability to set specific rates for your pickup and carryout orders under your Inventory Location settings. Shipping orders will continue to use the state level rates you've already configured.

Rollout
We will be rolling out the new taxes in groups based on Company (tenant) name.
- Wed, May 8: Tenants from A-B
- Wed, May 16: Tenants from C-F
- Tue, May 21: Tenants from G-L
- Thu, May 23: Tenants from M-Z
Unsure of your tenant name?
Your tenant name can be found in the URL/address bar of your browser. For example, for spectra-winery.admin.platform.commerce7.com/, spectra-winery is the tenant name, so they would be in the "S" rollout group.
