When does Commerce7 require a Billing Address on V2?

Whether C7 collects Billing Address is conditionally based on individual state law

When does Commerce7 not require a Billing Address and why?

If the law does not mandate a Billing Address for the shipping state or the tasting room location, Commerce7 will not collect this information. This approach is rooted in our commitment to providing customers with a seamless and efficient purchasing experience.

Commerce7's core focus is to provide your Customers with the most streamlined, modern purchasing experience as possible. Billing address is not required by the credit card companies, so we do not collect it on V2 (if not mandated by the state). This makes for a much faster checkout with fewer clicks for your Customer - which translates into higher conversion rates.

When does Commerce7 require a Billing Address?

When it comes to the purchase of alcohol, some states legally require the purchaser’s date of birth and/or billing address for the Order to pass compliance.

The requirement for a Billing Address depends on the legal obligations of the destination shipping state or the tasting room location state.

  • Destination Shipping state: If the destination shipping state requires a Billing Address by law, then Commerce7 will collect it.
  • Tasting Room Location state: If the tasting room location (where onsite wine is sold) requires a Billing Address by law, then Commerce7 will collect it.
