Maine Bottle Bill
Maine's Bottle Deposit in effect as of July 1, 2025
Summary:
As of July 1, 2025: Similar to California's CRV, Maine is implementing a bottle deposit for orders within Maine.
Steps for Setup:
- Go to Setting > Taxes > Custom Taxes to enable the setting to collect the Maine Bottle Bill deposit. The setting will be off by default.
- Check the box and Save.
- How it works: If the order is being shipped to or picked up within Maine, for each individual Wine product in the order, the Maine Bottle Bill deposit fee will be calculated and applied in the taxes area:
- If the bottle is > 50ml, $0.15 will be charged
- If the bottle is <= 50ml, $0.05 will be charged
Reporting
To view the total amount charged for the Maine Bottle Deposit fee only:
- Go to Reports > Finance Reports > Tax Report.
- If the Maine Bottle Deposit fee has been charged for any orders within your selected date range, you'll see it listed as a row in the report.
- Click Email Report the top to be emailed a CSV file.
You can also see a daily summary of the Maine Bottle Deposit fee charged from the Reports > Order Reports > Closing Report.
Need bottle quantity?
Head over to the Reports > Finance Reports > Tax Compliance Report This will give you both bottle quantity and mL.
How to see Maine Bottle Deposit per Order
Go to Store > Orders where you can do an Order Export (with Details). This will give you SKU(s) + qty + Tax + Maine Bottle Deposit per Order.
Disabling the Fee
If you do not remit taxes in California, then you should not collect this tax.
- To not collect the fee, go to Settings > Taxes > Custom Taxes
- Under 'State Fees', click the pencil button
- Uncheck Collect Maine Bottle Deposit
- Click Save State Fees
